This page isn't about my writing. It's not even about fiction. It's about something that really happened.

In the early 1970s my mother worked with a friend of hers at a company that booked musicians for orchestras. One lunchtime she popped out of the office and put on the answering machine. When she returned she heard the messages in the recording below.

The first two messages are fairly normal, but the third message isn't, and has had us intrigued for years. She handed me the tape in 1984 and it has been in my possession ever since. Recently, a friend encouraged me to make an MP3 of it, to preserve the recording, as there’s little room in the world for old cassette tapes anymore.

Is it a prank? Or perhaps ghostly voices? Maybe it’s a crossed line. But why would a crossed line end up on someone’s answering machine? Can anyone identify the voice in the radio broadcast?

If you have any thoughts. Please use the Contact Me page to get in touch.
